Welcome to the Highway 169 Preliminary Design and
Environmental Documentation-Elk River to Zimmerman Web page!
This site is your official source of up-to-date information about
the study and its results. This Web site will be updated as new information is
available. Check back frequently to stay informed about the project and
opportunities to participate in the planning process. We look forward to your
feedback.
The study area extends approximately 13-miles along Highway
169, from Highway 10 in Elk River to 277th Avenue north of Zimmerman. The study
area has been divided into two parts, one focused on the Elk River area and the
other focused around Zimmerman.
The study will produce a preliminary design and
environmental documentation for the interchanges and frontage/backage road
system proposed in this 13-mile area. The Minnesota Department of
Transportation has hired a consultant to assist it in completing these activities,
which began in Spring 2006 and will be conducted over the next five years. The study team has selected the Preferred Alternative and the environmental documentation process is underway. The document will discuss the need for the project, the range of reasonable alternatives considered and the social, economic and environmental impacts of the Preferred Alternative. This phase of the project is anticipated to be complete in late 2011.
