Environmental Process

The environmental impacts of the Highway 55 project have been documented in an Environmental Assessment/Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EA/EAW).  An EA/EAW is a joint federal/state document that is used to determine the potential for significant environmental effects and whether or not there is a need for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The EA/EAW discusses:

  • Need for the project
  • Reasonable alternatives
  • Social, economic, and environmental impacts

The EA/EAW has been completed. The EA/EAW can be found online in the documents section of this website [link].

The comment period for the EA/EAW concluded May 9, 2008. The Federal Highway Administration issued a "Finding of No Significant Impact" on December 30, 2008. Mn/DOT issued a "Negative Declaration" on the need for an Environmental Impact Statement on January 5, 2009. These documents can be found online in the documents section of this website [link].
