Mn/DOT completed a Scoping Decision Document in 2004 that identified three
bypass alternatives and a through-town alternative as potential alignments to
receive further study in an Environmental Impact Statement.
In 2006, Mn/DOT retained SRF Consulting Group, Inc. to complete
preliminary engineering on the alternatives and complete an Environmental Impact
Statement. This work will be carried out over the next two years and will
include opportunities for public comment at appropriate stages in the
process.
Since summer 2006, meetings have been held with the project’s Policy and Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC). The PTAC has helped project staff identify issues and answer questions about local concerns. In addition to these PTAC meetings, meetings with natural resources agencies and representatives have been held to collect and report on environmental information. Informational meetings have been held for local property owners potentially impacted by the build alternatives. Given the highway’s proximity to the railroad, coordination with representatives of the BNSF Railway Company has also been ongoing.
Meetings will continue throughout the environmental process and will contribute to the information that will be presented in both the Draft and Final EIS documents.
