Mn/DOT announces change in focus for Highway 10 improvements

After a recent study was unable to identify a strong need for a four-lane expansion of Highway 10 in Wadena, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration have decided to refocus efforts in relation to the project.

“The information gathered through the Environmental Impact Statement process, did not identify traffic or safety issues sufficient enough to warrant expansion at this time,” said Lee Berget, Mn/DOT district engineer. “However, Mn/DOT remains committed to meeting the future needs along the Highway 10 corridor through involving residents, the business community, townships, cities, counties and other state and federal agencies in the planning process.”

Berget said Mn/DOT will continue to monitor pavement conditions and safety along the corridor. A feasibility study will be developed to document information gathered to date and any opportunities for improvement on this portion of the roadway.

The engineering firm, SRF Consulting Group, Inc., conducted the environmental impact review.
